Featured band of the Week: POISON IDEA

Photobucket
POISON IDEA
Formed in 1980 in quiet Portland, Oregon, Poison Idea quickly established themselves as one of the front-runners of 80's hardcore/punk scene. With a sense of nihilism motivated by Black Flag, The Germs and other early So-Cal hardcore bands, the band became an assault on all the senses. Taking musical notes on such bands as Discharge and D.C.'s SOA, Poison Idea pushed the envelope in regards to the contemporary punk rock of the day, these boys played raw and angry with a sense of nihilism that to this day is a rarity in the hardcore/punk world. And with Darby Crash of The Germs vocal, lyrical, and philosophical influence on singer Jerry A., along with their notoriously insatiable diet of drugs, alcohol, and junk food, the band continued with the same extremist punk ethic as their peers did before them.

With a shit load of releases spanning over a ten year existence, Poison Idea has no doubt carved a place in punk history. Since there are so many records by this band I suggest you find their first four releases, these being the best and most aggressive, are quintessential in experiencing what is Poison Idea.

These releases are:

1. Darby Crash Rides Again Demo (1982)

2. Pick Your King 7” EP (1983)

3. Record Collectors Are Pretentious Assholes 12” EP (1984)

4. Kings of Punk LP (1986)
